Clarity - our saviour
On the 1st April 2016 (it wasn't a joke), we had to vacate our long standing purpose built studio in the grounds of Portsmouth Association for the Blind in Stubbington Avenue as they were moving into the Deaf Centre in Arundel Street, having sold their premises.
This meant that in the couple of months prior to that date we had to search for new premises. One of the first people that the Chairman spoke to was Jane at Clarity - Employment for the Blind, a charity that has been in existence since 1854 (no Jane is nowhere near that age). Jane told Chris that there was a room possibly available in their offices that may suffice in the short term. Having looked at the premises, we made the decision to run with it, even if it was only for a few months and moved some of our equipment in during March and made the first recording from there on 5 April 2016. Although we are able to make the recordings from there, we still know that we shall have to find somewhere else and are still looking.
We thought that we had found something when after the Radio Solent interview, we were contacted by Rhoda from Cascades with an offer of space, unfortunately it was too much space and whilst we were happy with the first part of the deal, it was the service charge that would have been crippling, though we do thank Rhoda for her thinking of us and trying to help.
As you can read about elsewhere we finally secured more permanent space in September 2015 and started recording from there in October 2016. We are always looking for volunteers to help with the most important jobs, copying the recordings to send out to our listeners as well as general office duties, Reading and recording (recording does require some computer knowledge, though training can be given), contact us at portsmouthareatalkingnnews@gmail.com
